You guys are amazing! and I'm very dumb!

Turns out the engine shutoff switch in the back was set to shutoff instead of run. Also, following the tip about the chime lights I found out my front switch does indeed work!

Not only did my problem get fixed, I learned something that will save me a lot of hassle. Thanks guys!

I would suspect the engine shut down. Have you checked all your switches in the rear control panel? Sounds like maybe the rear engine switch is flipped.

The switch on the dash has never worked since I've owned it so I always start it from the back. Just curious, why would having it on rear engine cause it to stall?>

All MCI Bus Discussions / 102a3 shuts off after a few minutes of running
« on: August 02, 2012, 04:57:04 PM »
Guys,

On my 102a3 that im trying to sell I've noticed a strange problem: the engine cranks over immediately and sounds fine, however within 5 mins of idling and building air pressure it shuts down. It sounds like its being choked of air or fuel.

My main thought was it was something I did. I was trying to trouble shoot this pin blocking the accelerator when put in reverse. I went around to the air tanks and flipped to switched to the tanks and generally had no idea what I was doing! :( aftee determing they were not the accelerator pin issue I put all the switches back to the way I found them.
Someone on busconversions mentioned trying to clamp the air line to the pin. I did that and it worked, the pin no longer prevented the bus from being reversed. However now the engine shuts off after 5 mins of idling! Even after I removed the clamp.

It's strange because it's almost like its not releasing air pressure. Before when it was idling fine after a few days of not running the air pressure would be 0. Now after a few days the pressure hasn't dropped very much at all. Always seems to die at or around 90 psi.

Any ideas?

Just started our conversion.

We have no skills whatsoever!  :)

The walnut laminate floor has been removed as well as portions of the original plywood floor and ceiling.

In the demolition process. The following pictures are how we bought it.

Introductions / Hello there from Dothan AL!
« on: February 11, 2012, 04:38:02 PM »
Hey all,

My name is Preston, my wife is Jessica. We are a young couple looking to start full timing in a bus so we can "live it up" a little before settling down and having kids.

Last October we bought a 86 MCI 102A3 (6V92TA and 740) and have been deciding how to proceed ever since. We got a really good deal on the bus as compared to other 102's. We drove it 350 miles back home with no hick-ups.

Neither of us are very mechanical or good carpenters/craftsmen. However, we are pretty good with websites. We own a few on the side making some money per month, this is how we plan to pay for expenses while full timing.

So far we've managed to trade skills with a carpentry company, we build them a website and they will do the kitchen for us.

We've began taking apart the inside, we took a couple panels of the original plywood floor up before we realized we should probably do the roof first.

Start doing that today, there is a small leak somewhere because there is some surface rust on the frame of the roof.

I've already learned a lot by reading the forums and some of the other online resources. Hope to meet you all and make some new friends.

I started a project thread with photos here:
