I’ve actually slept in mine several times. I put a futon mattress in there and it fits perfect. I have plenty of space to roll around. I’ll lay out there on a hot summer afternoon for a little nap. I open the other side for a crossing breeze. I even spent a night in there with the temperatures below zero. I had a noisy crew sleeping in the bus and needed to get away from the snoring. So down there I went with my electric blanket. It was rather nice.
My only concern was being trapped in there by some goofball walking by and locking me in.
I’m working on an interior screen door to keep the bay door open and the critters out. I’m also thinking of cutting an access door in the floor of the bus to get into this area. I’ll put something over the trap door like a garbage can, to keep it from being stepped on.
But I don’t think I’ll allow anyone in there when the bus is in motion. The thought of running over something in the road and it penetrating the floor to injure someone, just not a pleasant scene.
good luck

So I talked to the Shop and it 32 hours plus parts cost I miss spoke the 3500 was for just the hours parts are extra. It is a coach shop specializes in Buses of all sorts. They are sending there Best mechanics out to take a look. They new about the drop box, but it has been awhile since they had a coach with one. They do not have a cradle there plane is to do what they do with all other buses they work on lift the bus from the hard points and drop the rear end and drop box combo to gain access to transmission. they are an over the road coach company that also maintains several fleets of coaches for several corporations and Schools, I know school buses are different they have ladder frames not the Monocoque design. I did not count bays but it seemed they had 8 to 10 bays all with buses. I am waiting for them to call to set up a time to take a look under the bus.

Rob, Have you started since that and if so did you lose any power or having a hard time accelerating?

That could be some motor problems. Was the motor pushing any oil out the air box drain tubes?

Rob, Some things to check----Make sure your rads. are sealed all the way around.. You want all the air going thru the rad, not around it. Also check your blower door and make sure it's sealing. A mashed tail piece on your muffler will cause back pressure and heat. take a water hose and back rinse the rads to clean out dust and stuff......after that you'll have to pull the rads and have them cleaned... Bet it was warmer this weekend than when you brought you bus home from Chicago.  You need to e-mail me and let me know what happened with the no-start. Have you looked at Bus conversion magazine yet?

Check for leaks at coolant tank in back. Check the seams on tank for leaks. Check hoses . Is it steaming out. The auto shut down should have sounded and shut the motor down at 205 to 210. Other than that maybe plugged radiator.

There is a bus out there that has oval opera windows in both side of bay doors(front bay) on both sides of bus. It was one of the big singers that had some, shall we say bad habits. It was said that when they finished a gig and on the way home his group members used to stick him down there and lock him in so that he wouldn't embarrass the rest of the group. LOL

Its an Eagle grey as i remember.
We Merle's bus in elk Grove sometimes. His FIL lives there. His bus 102 C also, has a door on the drivers side.
I found it in my Pictures. It also had 2 VW tops mounted on top.

I don't know about yours but mine had a sheet of 3/4" with foil on the inside and outside of panel. you might take off a small section so you can see what there. I wonder if anyone has ever drilled hole in between ribs and shot in an foam etc.

have an MCI-8  1975 with 8v71  with automatic  drove it from Chicago to Austin 5 months ago no problems doing 65-70 the whole way..

Drove it 25 miles   each way this weekend and the temp was running 180 degrees when under 60mph but anything over that or under load going up hill  it would climb to 210-220.  Filled it up with  water prior to trip   seemed to take a lot more than expected about 8 gallons or so.  checked oil not getting any coolant  in pan.

Blowers seem to be working and air tension adjuster is operating?
suggestion on what to check?

hi 78, my 5A, has a 2'X2' hatch to the bay and the bays walls and doors are carpeted, but its hot in summer and cold in winter, I do have an eletric outlet and lights in there, originally for kids and dogs, I thought I would convert to a king sized bed area opening up the bedroom for a living room/familyroom but just collected to much stuff with only one bay, lvmci...
